Will S'pore be hosting the Youth Olympic Games in 2010?

After long months of planning and work to host the first ever Youth Olympic Games in 2010,it has come to this moment, yes today will be the day where we will get to know whether it is going to be us or Moscow who is going to win the bid to host the YOG.

So what are the chances of us winning the bid? Well,I dont really know actually because we do not have a rich history in hosting major sports events, nor do we have athletes who are world reknown, unlike Moscow,or Russia in particular.Moscow hosted the 1980 Olympics and Russia's Black Sea resort of Sochi was picked last year to stage the 2014 Winter Games. But we all know that Singapore has the potential to whole world class event,we have demonstrated that before in business like events, but never a sport event, maybe not considering we have hosted the SEA Games before a long time ago,I cant remember, and I believe we was suppose to be the host for the recent SEA Games in Bangkok but we turn down the offer due to some reason I cant remember. The other thing that might be a disadvantage for us is our small land space. But as the old saying goes,'Size doesnt necessarily matter' and I agree with that.If we got all the facilities available and can offer them a good time, size should be the least of our concern.Another factor that could be a cause is the weather here. Its hot and humid unlike the cold weather in Moscow. Many people say that the weather here could cause some problems for the atheletes, but I think that is a problem which all atheletes should be able to cope with.I mean you cant just be able to play well in cold weather and not in hot weather. If they can handle the heat, then I think they can play in any conditions.

The Youth Olympics will feature about 3,500 athletes aged 14-18 competing in 26 sports. The event,to be held every four years,is designed to encourage youngsters to get involved in sports and spend less time in front of computer and television screens.Moscow is underwriting a Games budget of US$180 million compared to $75 million for Singapore, but again, more money doesnt mean you will win.Im really hoping Singapore will win the bid,we have put so much effort in our plans and I hope the IOC will be impress by it and have voted in our favor. But if Moscow wins it,I think we should not be very disappointed because to be the final 2 cities is already a big deal, but of course, since we are here already, lets go all the way.If you want to join the announcement with the public, you may head down to Padang later today. The announcement will be made live by IOC president Jacques Rogge from Olympic Museum in Lausanne. You are encourage to wear red if youre coming down and rest assured, the celebrations will still go on regardless of what the result is.If you are lazy to go down, you can catch it live on ChannelNewsAsia later. For now, lets just hope for the best!
