We finally did it!

If you are a Singaporean, then Im sure you have heard the good news yesterday unless you are someone who doesnt care about what is happening here.Anyway,if you still havnt heard it,the good news yesterday was that we have beaten Moscow to be the host city for the first ever,Youth Olympics Games! How cool is that. The announcement was made at around 7.20 pm local time yesterday and my heart was beating very fast in anticipation of the winning city and when IOC President Jacques Rogge said the winner was 'Singapore',I was overjoyed, and Im sure you did feel the same way too.

It might not be as big as the main Olympics games, but still, its part of the Olympic, something that is well respected and I think we can have every reason to be proud of the result. We have put in a lot of effort in the bid,and it has paid off.Well done to the organising committee for puting up a great bid.Beating 7 other world class cities, and not to mention Moscow in the final two is a fantastic result in my opinion. The exact number of votes received by both cities was Singapore winning it by 53 votes to 44.That is very close indeed.I guess if we cannot host the main Olympics, and since we have only won one Olympic medal in our history, which is back in 1960s if Im not wrong, hosting the YOG would not be that bad afterall.

Now thats the bidding and planning is all done and dusted,it now comes to delivering the deal, which would be a much tougher task but Im sure we are able to do it.I cant wait for 2010 when we welcome the Youth of the world to this beautiful city of ours and give them something to remember about after the event has ended.Singapore awaits you.But for now, lets all look forward to the upcoming Beijing Olympics later this year and hope we can win some medal, whether its bronze, silver or gold, because that would be a great way to start our organisation for the YOG in 2010.
