Yes you heard it right. The possibility of taking the MRT from Singapore and going to Johor could happen in the future but it is still premature to say whether Singapore's MRT line will eventually extend into Johor Bahru, according to Transport Minister Raymond Lim.
He was responding about a recent Bernama report,a Malaysian newspaper, which had quoted Johor Menteri Besar Abdul Ghani Othman as saying that a block of flats that was being torn down was for a train station that would serve as an extension of Singapore's MRT line, while adding that negotiations with the Singaporean authorities were still in early stages.Basically that is all the news that I can find regarding this issue. For me,I think the idea of extending the MRT line into Johor would be a great thing. It means you do not have to wait for long hours on the Causeway anymore.Actually the problem of jams at the Causeway is not as bad as it previously was with the 2nd Link being open for operation, but when unexpected problems like the recent Mas Selamat escaped happened,it can be a big problem,as we have seen over the past few months, though the jam is receding with more manpower being deployed. But imagine how the people who travels to back and fro from JB to Singapore and vise versa by public transportation would feel if this idea becomes a reality. It would definitely make life easier for them.
I am not a frequent visitor to Johor, and I only go there if someone offers me a ride, not by bus.I think if the MRT line can be extended to Johor,it will be much faster for the people to travel.I know there are many Johorians who are working or schooling in Singapore and they have to wake early in the morning to travel to Singapore in order to avoid the traffic congestion. If they can take the MRT instead, their life would be made much easier as well.It is just like going to one place to another in Singapore by taking the MRT.I really hope that this idea would become a reality, then I would consider travelling to Johor more often. Both the Malaysians and Singaporeans will benefit a lot if this deal comes through.I hope to hear positive response in the future from our authorities regarding this issue. The sooner it is,the better it will be.
