Im sure you have heard many stories about animals extinction before but I dont think many have heard stories about over population from animals before.Just a few months ago,I heard the story about how Africa is planning to kill the elephants there due to its over population and their disability to control it.But Im not focusing on that story.I want to talk about recent news about the Australian government which is planning to slaughter 400 of its kangaroos because they are 'ruining the habitat of rare lizards and insects.'
Now I ask you,is such decision fair? For me,I dont think so.OK,I understand sometimes animals can be a nuisance to other animal species, but I guess thats natural. However,I dont find any justice is killing the kangeroos to eradicate the problem, its cruel and its unfair. The scientists point out that eastern gray kangaroos are abundant and they are destroying the native grassland of threatened species such as the grassland earless dragon, striped legless lizard, golden sun moth and perunga grasshopper. So these are threatened species and therefore need to be protected, but if you are going to kill the kangaroos, than sooner or later, the kangaroos itself will be threatened too.Lets take the human logic for example. If a country is over populated, you will definitely need to use more resource right? But you dont kill the people to reduce the severity of the problem right? You find other ways to help to cope with the problem like encouraging families to have less children or something, but of course, you cant ask the kangaroos or any animals for that matter to produce less babies. There must be other ways to deal with the problems but killing them is not one of them I think.
Fortunately, there are some protesters in Australia that are protesting and vowing to stop government contractors from entering the Kangaroos territories and killing the eastern gray kangaroos as well as triggering international protests by animal rights activists. The Australian government however, citing possible danger to the public, does not plan to shoot the animals. The contractors will instead fire darts to tranquilize them before administering lethal injections.Well on a positive side of thing, the Kangaroos will have a peaceful death but on a negative side of thing, they will still die nevertheless,so why go all the way to trouble yourself. If you want to kill it,just kill it.Not that I am asking them to kill the kangaroos.Australia's Defense Department has not told the date about the culling, but if reports are to be believe,it could begin in the upcoming days.
I am an animal lover.I hope the Australian government will reconsider its plan of killing the kangaroos. They are such a beautiful animal, therefore they should not get rid of them just like that.Im sure there is a way that the kangaroos and the lizards or insects can co-exist peacefully. It would be really really sad if the government goes on with their plan. Here hoping for a good news in the upcoming days.
