If you did not watched the news yesterday, then let me tell you what the good news is all about.Come June 13,cellphone subscribers in Singapore will enjoy full mobile number portability. So what exactly is a full mobile number portability you may ask.I will explain to you further.
Currently,if you wish the switch to a new mobile operator, lets say like from Singtel to Starhub, you will need to hold two numbers so that calls to his old number are call—forwarded to a new one right? While you may still know who is trying to call you,the person you are replying to will get your new number shown on their mobile if you try to call or SMS them and this will obviously cause some confusion if you havn't tell that person your new mobile number. It will be a pain in your arse if you switch mobile operator as you will need to inform all your contacts or your new number although the old one is still usable.Well you dont have to worry about all that anymore with the new system.
When implemented from June 13,full mobile number portability will allow anyone who wishes to keep their current number when they switch mobile operator,to do so by the next working day. This spares them the hassle of updating their family, friends and business contacts about a new number. So what this mean is that from June 13 onwards,if you are planning to change your mobile operator, you do not need to hold 2 numbers anymore.Whether you wish to retain your old number or change to a new one is up to you but of course many people would prefer to retain the old number as to avoid any trouble updating their contacts if they change to a new number. The long awaited move is expected to intensify competition amongst telcos which will now have to compete aggressively not just to win market share but to retain existing customers.
For those of you who are porting your numbers like myself, you have until May 14 to decide which number you want to retain.I just change my mobile operator recently, from M1 to Singtel and currently,I can be contacted by using my old and my new number as well. But when I call or send a SMS to anyone, they will received my new number.I have not told anyone about my new number when I change my mobile operator because Im too lazy so some of them got confused when I contacted them.I really like the new system, which means I dont need to hold 2 numbers anymore but I dont know which one should I keep.I know some of you still do not know my new number,it doesnt matter,I will update you soon when I have made my decision on which number should I retain yeah.
