CNN Web site targeted!

If you had try to surf to the number one news Web site CNN.com yesterday, like I did, then you would have probably experienced some difficulties. No,it was not because there was some problem with your Internet connection or something but instead,it was because CNN was targeted Thursday by attempts to interrupt its news Web site, resulting in countermeasures that caused the service to be slow or unavailable to some users in limited areas of Asia, which included Singapore.

CNN spokesman said the Web site began to notice problems around midday Thursday (it was Thursday in America and Friday here) and took measures to isolate the trouble by limiting the number of users who could access it from specific geographic areas. As a result,he said, some users in those areas experienced temporary slowdowns or problems accessing the site which explains why I had the problem yesterday. The attempt came as tech-oriented Web sites in Asia were reporting calls from hacker groups in China for denial-of-service attacks to be launched against the CNN Web site on Saturday over the network's coverage of unrest in Tibet.Angry Chinese bloggers have accused CNN and several other Western news organizations of being unfair in covering recent pro-independence protests in Tibet, which is controlled by China.

If you have been following closely to the news, you would have probably know the story which angered China when someone from CNN said that the United States imported Chinese-made "junk with the lead paint on them and the poisoned pet food," and added,"They're basically the same bunch of goons and thugs they've been for the last 50 years." which he later refered to the Chinese leaders in particular and not the Chinese people when the Chinese government requested for an apology. In response, the network released a statement noting that "CNN's reputation is based on reporting global news accurately and impartially, while our coverage through the use of words, images or video always reflects a wide range of opinions and points of view on every story",which I completely agree.

My view on this is that it should not happen in the first place.I was really frustrated yesterday when I could not get into the website,it is one of my most visited Web site and I get most of my news feed from there and when I couldnt do it yesterday,I thought I had some problems with my computer because it was weird for something like that to happen. Then I thought about the recent problem which is going on between China and CNN and it did occur to me that it could be the job of the hackers and I was indeed right.I am a big fan of CNN,in fact it is my favourite news channel and I think there is no other news channel in the world that can match with it.I also subscribe to the channel on my cable TV,so I know that when they are reporting on a particular story, they are not being bias at all,but I thought what the CNN guy said of China was really unnecessary. If they want to settle their problems,do it in private, just dont disrupt the Web site or anything else.I hope that will be my first and last time experiencing some difficulties in going to the Web site because it really pisses me off when I cant get to read the news.
