The people in West Virginia went to the polls today in another round of primary election to decide which democratric nominee will become the presidential nominee. And there was no surprise who the winner was going to be and it was decisive. With more 90 percent of precincts reporting,Clinton captured 67 percent of the vote and the bulk of the state's 28 pledged delegates.
Despite recent calls asking her to quit the race, she has vowed to continue through five remaining primaries, even as Obama turns his sights on Republican John McCain. This was an expected victory for Clinton because West Virginia is one of the states that like the Clinton's very much, including Bill as seen from past year election results.Even Obama had predicted earlier that he was not going to win it and only made limited appearances in West Virginia as he turned attention to swing states that will be important in the November election against McCain. But again, many analysts are saying that her victory today,no matter how big the margin is,will only do little for her flattering campaign. After today, the latest estimated number of delegates for both candidates, adding in pledged delegates won in primaries and caucuses, stands at 1,875 for Obama to Hillary Clinton delegates of 1,712, according to an unofficial tally by the Associated Press.A candidate needs 2,026 to win the nomination.
Like I said earlier, this result is nothing surprising nor does it affect me very much because the tide is now on Obama's side and its a matter of time before Obama become the Democratic Presidential nominee. The best thing for Hillary to do now is to quit the race gracefully and start to support Obama instead. Her campaign is in huge debt and she is trailing Obama in the number of superdelegates. She is battling a sure to fail campaign now and she will only do more damage to Obama and their party's chances of winning the national election if she continue to do what she is planning to do which is to continue on her bid.I actually think despite all the smiles and all the positive hope she is giving and telling, she is starting to think how and when will she drop out.
Nevertheless, congratulation to Hillary for her big win today despite its little significance. The campaign trail now moves to Kentucky and Oregon, which will vote in one week time.See you then.
